Human power

I was kind of shocked today. We have severe power problem in Bangladesh but we got huge surplus of population. So, one day shehab and I end up with an idea, we will produce power from human. Rikshaw is a unique vehicle in Bangladesh. Our idea was simple: we will mount thousands of cycle in a building and generators will be connected with them. So instead of moving forward the cyclers will rotate the shaft of the generator by cycling and produce power. Remuneration will be paid on hourly basis, in this way our rikshaw pullers will get a new job. It was a good fun thinking such weird idea and costing the whole thing. As far I can remember we estimated the cost of whole thing and power cost was 2/4tk per unit or something like that. Do you think it is absurd? Well, see the video.

Do you still think it is absurd? No, it is not completely absurd. There is a non zero probability of such thing unless we come up with some better solutions.

  1. And if it can be done with rickshaws , why not buses and trucks then? Actually we can use anything that is rolling right? So, why not sewing machines in garment factories? I think sewing machines would produce more readily available power the machines are stationary.

  2. Oops man!!! You miss the point. Our concern was re-habitation of rikshaw pullers. Yes, of course you can do it with sewing machine but garments industry is already earning quite a lot for Bangladesh. And buses, trucks run by fuel not human energy.

  3. Okkay :P.. Guess I was just focusing on something else... There is a possible pitfall here though - the more the rickshaw pullers will cycle to create energy, the less costly the energy will be and the less they will earn eventually. At the end of the year, government will have to pay huge subsidy to keep this industry going.. :D
